DAV NABHA CELEBRATED ‘Lohri Dheeyan Di’
Lohri,is the festival which is celebrated with utmost zeal in entire Punjab, it also has some age-old customs and practices attached to it. It is still considered as the festival for newborn boys.This year DAV Centenary Public School, Nabha dedicated this festival to the girl child with the theme ‘Lohri Dheeyan Di’ under the able guidance of our honourable Principal Dr Meena Mehta.The festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal on 13 January, 2021 in the premises of junior wing.The main purpose of the celebrations was to make people aware of the social evil of female foeticide as the sex ratio is getting unbalanced with each passing day.
On this auspicious occasion a special programme was organised in which the parents of the newly born girl were invited.The function started with the litting of Bonfire as an invocation.The Principal along with parents and the staff members, offering puffed rice, peanuts and popcorn to seek the blessings of the almighty. The mood was uplifting as the flames crackled to break the chill of dusk.The stunning dance performance by the students of Class-VII highlighting the importance of the festival of Lohri, which ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter.Folk songs sung by Imroz filled the air with festivity and happiness. This was followed by yet another dance performance by the students.After that the song on the condition of girls was sung in the melodious voice of Mr. Kuldeep Rai made everyone spell bound. The exuberant dance performance on Giddha by the students was also appreciated by everyone. The little girls were also bestowed with blankets as token of love by the Principal of the school . Sweaters were also distributed among the Group -D of the school for their tireless work. In the end Dr Meena Mehta, expressed her gratitude to the guests and parents for sparing their precious time and showed their kind presence in the school. She wished everyone that the coming year would bring happiness in the lives of the students,parents as well as the teachers.
