Lohri,is the festival which is celebrated with utmost zeal in entire Punjab, it also has some    age-old customs and practices attached to it. It is still considered as the festival for newborn boys.This year DAV Centenary Public School, Nabha  dedicated this festival to the girl child with the theme ‘Lohri Dheeyan Di’ under the able guidance of our honourable Principal Dr. Meena Mehta.The guests of the day were Mr. Vivek Khanna (President of Rotary Club),Mr. Chaman Lal Ji(Vice president of Rotary club), Mr. Lalit Sharma(member of Rotary club),Mr.JS Bagga Ji(Retired Chief Manager of PNB) and Mr. Baljinder Arora Ji(member of Rotary Club).The festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal in 13 January, 2020 in the premises of Junior Wing.The main purpose of the celebrations was to make people aware of the social evil of female foeticide as the sex ratio is getting unbalanced with each passing day.

On this auspicious occasion a special programme was organised in which the parents of the newly born girl were invited.The  function started with a group song by the students of Class V highlighting the importance of the festival of Lohri, which ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter.Folk songs were sung by Imroz and Angad of Class V filled the air with festivity and happiness. This was followed by Qawalli on the song 'Nitt Khair Manga Soneya'sung my our music teacher Mr.Kuldeep Rai and the students of Class V and IV. After that the songs sung in the melodious voices of the famous singers Selina Shelly and Aman Khan made everyone spell bound. The exuberant dance performance on Giddha by the students was also appreciated by everyone. Bonfire was lit as an invocation.The Principal along with parents and the eminent personalities of the city walked around the fire, offering puffed rice, peanuts and popcorn to seek the blessings of the almighty. The mood was uplifting as the flames crackled to break the chill of dusk.

The little girls were also bestowed with blankets as token of love by the Principal of the school. In the end Dr Meena Mehta, expressed her gratitude to the guests and parents for sparing their precious time and showed their kind presence in the school.She made the parents aware about the ratio of girl that has reduced to 754 as compared to boys .She wished everyone  that the coming year would bring happiness in the lives of the students, parents as well as the teachers.
